Translating the Saint: Joseph de Prémare's Figurist Torque of Chinese from Decem to Crucem

  • 摘要: 本文探索法籍耶稣会士马若瑟(Joseph Henry-Marie de Prémare,1666-1736)对中国古代经典中"圣人"一词的翻译与诠释。该词是17至18世纪索隐派耶稣会士著作里,如"圣治"、"三一"等几个关键词之一。在马若瑟对于"圣人"一词的诠释里,我发现了一个有关中文"十"字相当独特的索隐诠释,以此为基,马若瑟的三一论述从一种形而上的、抽象的教义讨论,转向一种道德实践的孝道理解;将圣人解释为大孝之人,将十之子转化为十字架之子。他从汉字研究探索中国古经的义理,并以象数的学理重新解释中国上古的"圣人"就是天主教里那位降生的天主。
