IU Yunhua did his graduate works at Soochou (Suzhou) University (1988-1991) and Peking (Beijing) University (1998-2001); he got his degrees of M.A. and Ph.D. in 1991 and in 2001 respectively. Now he is university professor and director of the Center for P. R. China`s National Key Project——Comparative Literature and World Literature at Shanghai Normal University. He is the author of Hermeneutics and the Meaning-making of Confucianist Canons in Pre-Qin Dynasty (Shanghai, 2002),  Interpretive Circle: the Missionary Interpretation of the Confucian Classics and its Chinese Response at Late Ming and Early Qing (Beijing, 2005/2006), Christian Culture in Chinese Writings: Sino-Western Literary Relations in Southern China at Early and Middle Qing Dynasty(1644-1840) (Shanghai, 2014), Crossing Boundaries: Chinese and Western Literature and Literary Theories (Shanghai, 2014), Rebirth of the Pre- Qin Confucian Canons (Fuzhou, 2017) and numerous academic articles.

YAO Shen, born in Huzhou, Jiangsu Province, PRC, is currently Distinguished Professor at Shanghai Normal University. He previously served as journal proprietor and Editor-in-Chief of the China University Academic Abstracts (CUUA) buttressed by China’s Ministry of Education, Co-Editor-in-Chief of Cowrie: A Journal of Comparative Literature and Culture, and Director of the Institute of Regional Studies at Shanghai Normal University. He was also Adjunct Professor at the College of Humanities and Communications, Shanghai Normal University, and graduate advisor at the university’s Research Center for Comparative Literature and World Literature, a Ministry of Education designated National Key Research Center.

He has published  dozens of academic articles including “Measuring and Choosing: On Interdisciplinary Studies in the Transformation of Social Sciences,” “A Study of the Origin of the Chinese Culture: New Problems and Visions,” “A Decennium of Comparative Literature in China,” and “‘Literary Myths’ of the Postcolonial Times: Non-native Language Writing and Its Significance,” etc. He has also published as many as 10 academic monographs and reference books, such as The Origin of the Chinese Culture (co-edited), East Asia: Economic, Political and Cultural Interpretations, Academic Research in China: 1984—2014 (Volume on Humanities and Volume on Social Sciences), Dictionary of Confucius (co-edited), Syllabus for Foreign Literature Teaching (co-edited), and so forth.

GUO Xi’an (Annie) received her B.A. (Philosophy, 2002), M.A. (Comparative Literature, 2006) and Ph.D. (Comparative Literature, 2013) from Fudan University. She currently is Associate Professor of Comparative Literature at Shanghai Normal University, and also serves as editorial director of International Comparative Literature. She was a visiting research fellow at Princeton University (2017-2018). Her work focuses on Comparative Poetics. Guo’s publications, including dozens of papers and two edited books, revolve around topics of revisiting Chinese canonical exegesis, meta-study of contemporary Sinology and methodological issues of comparative studies.

JI Jianxun, Ph.D., Professor in the Institute of Humanities, Shanghai Normal University, mainly engaged in the study of the principles of comparative literature and Chinese and foreign literary relations. He is also a researcher in Shanghai Normal University Urban Culture Research Center, a senior research scholar at Boston College (2015.07-2017.07), a Pujiang Scholar in Shanghai City.

ZHANG Longxi holds an MA in English from Peking University and a PhD in Comparative Literature from Harvard University. He had taught at Peking, Harvard, and the University of California, Riverside, and is currently Chair Professor of Comparative Literature and Translation at the City University of Hong Kong, and a Distinguished Professor at the Yenching Academy of Peking University. He was elected a foreign member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities in 2009 and a foreign member of Academia Europaea in 2013. He is President of the International Comparative Literature Association for 2016-19. He serves as an Advisory Editor of New Literary History, and an Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of World Literature. He has published more than 20 books and numerous articles in both English and Chinese in East-West comparative studies. 

HUANG Wan, born in Ningde, Fujian Province. She received her PhD from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Fudan University, and is now the executive editor of International Comparative Literature (Chinese and English). Her research interests include comparative literature, comparative poetic and comparative studies between Chinese hermeneutics of Confucian canons and western hermeneutics.

XIONG Ying is originally from Huangshi, Hubei Province, PRC. She received her PhD in Comparative Literature from the University of Oregon, USA in 2018. Named a Pujiang Scholar by the city of Shanghai in 2019, Ying is currently English Executive Editor of International Comparative Literature: A Journal Devoted to Research in Transcultural Encounters and a faculty research fellow at Shanghai Normal University. Her intellectual interests lie at the intersection of comparative rhetoric, comparative poetics, literary hermeneutics and translation studies.  

Roger T. Ames is Humanities Chair Professor at Peking University, Co-Chair of the Academic Advisory Committee of the Peking University Berggruen Research Center, and Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at the University of Hawai’i. He is former editor of Philosophy East & West and founding editor of China Review International. Ames has authored several interpretative studies of Chinese philosophy and culture: Thinking Through Confucius (1987), Anticipating China (1995), Thinking from the Han (1998), and Democracy of the Dead (1999) (all with D.L. Hall), Confucian Role Ethics: A Vocabulary (2011), and most recently “Human Becomings: Theorizing ‘Persons’ for Confucian Role Ethics” (forthcoming). His publications also include translations of Chinese classics: Sun-tzu: The Art of Warfare (1993); Sun Pin: The Art of Warfare (1996) (with D.C. Lau); the Confucian Analects (1998) and the Classic of Family Reverence: The Xiaojing (2009) (both with H. Rosemont), Focusing the Familiar: The Zhongyong (2001), and The Daodejing (with D.L. Hall) (2003). Almost all of his publications are now available in Chinese translation, including his philosophical translations of Chinese canonical texts. He has most recently been engaged in compiling the new Sourcebook of Classical Confucian Philosophy, and in writing articles promoting a conversation between American pragmatism and Confucianism.

CHEN Sihe was born in Shanghai in the 1950s. He is a senior professor of Chinese language and literature at Fudan University and also is the university librarian. He had received the National Teacher Award from the Ministry of Education, and is a distinguished Professor of the “Yangtze River Scholars” of the Ministry of Education. His representative work is Chen Sihe Anthology (seven volumes). His awards and other honorary titles include: the first prize of Shanghai Excellent Academic Works of Philosophy and Social Sciences for “Self-Selected Works of Chen Sihe,” the first prize of the National Higher Education Textbook for the editorship of The History of Chinese Contemporary Literature, the national excellent book Award nomination for Ba Jin Tu Zhuan, and the first prize of outstanding achievements in the humanities of the Ministry of Education for the paper “On the Pioneering of the May Fourth New Literature Movement,” etc.

David Damrosch is Ernest Bernbaum Professor of Comparative Literature at Harvard University. A past president of the American Comparative Literature Association, he is the founder and director of Harvard’s Institute for World Literature. His books include What Is World Literature? (2003), The Buried Book: The Loss and Rediscovery of the Great Epic of Gilgamesh (2007), How to Read World Literature (expanded 2d. ed. 2017), and Comparing the Literatures: What Every Comparatist Needs to Know (forthcoming from Princeton). He is the general editor of the six-volume Longman anthologies of British Literature and of World Literature, co-editor of The Princeton Sourcebook in Comparative Literature, and co-editor of two collections in Chinese, Theories of World Literature: A Reader (2013) and Xin fangxiang: bijiao wenxue yu shijie wenxue duben (2010).

Martin Kern is the Joanna and Greg ’84 P13 P18 Zeluck Professor in Asian Studies and Chair of the Department of East Asian Studies at Princeton University. He also serves as co-editor of T’oung Pao and is a member of the American Philosophical Society. At Princeton, Kern directs the university-wide collaboration “Comparative Antiquity: A Humanities Council Global Initiative.” At Renmin University of China (Beijing), he is the Xin’ao Distinguished Visiting Chair in the Humanities and directs the “International Center for the Study of Ancient Text Cultures.” Kern’s numerous publications, including ten authored or edited books, address topics across all genres of ancient Chinese literature, including poetry as cultural memory and as performance in political and religious ritual; authorship; writing and orality; methodological issues in manuscript studies; early literary thought; and style and rhetoric in philosophy and historiography. As a Guggenheim Foundation fellow, he currently spends his sabbatical year at Ca’ Foscari University, Venice, to complete his new monograph Performance, Memory, and Authorship in Ancient China: The Formation of the Poetic Tradition.   

LI Sher-shiueh received his Ph. D in comparative literature from the University of Chicago. He is a Research Follow of the Institute of Chinese Literature and Philosophy, Academia Sinica, with a joint appointment of professorship at National Taiwan Normal University and Catholic Fu-jen University. He is also appointed as Concurrent Professor of Intercultural Studies, Fu Jen Catholic University. Li has been affiliated with Research Center of Translation, Chinese University of Hong Kong, as Honorary Research Fellow since 2012. He has published widely on East-West comparative literature, most of which concerns Jesuit writings and translation activities in late-Ming and early Qing China. Because of his studies of Ming Jesuit use of Medieval Exemplum and his studies of Jesuit translation of European literature in late imperial China, he won the Academia Sinica Award for Junior Investigators (2003) and Academia Sinica Awards for Senior Investigators (2006 and 2011).  Li also won the Hong Kong based Stephen C. Soong Translation Studies Memorial Awards in 2010 and 2012. In addition to his Chinese works in this field, Li’s most recent publication is an English book entitled Jesuit Chreia in Late Ming China: Two Essays with An Annotated Translation of Alfonso Vagnone’s Illustrations of the Grand Dao (2014; co-authored with Thierry Meynard).

Galin Tihanov is the George Steiner Professor of Comparative Literature at Queen Mary University of London. He has held visiting appointments at Yale University, St. Gallen University, the University of Sao Paulo, Peking University, Seoul National University, and the Higher School of Economics (Moscow). He has published widely on German, Russian, and East-European cultural and intellectual history; his current research is on world literature, cosmopolitanism, and exile. His most recent book is The Birth and Death of Literary Theory: Regimes of Relevance in Russia and Beyond (Stanford University Press, 2019); he is currently writing Cosmopolitanism: A Very Short Introduction for Oxford University Press. Tihanov is elected member of Academia Europaea and sits on the advisory board of the Institute of World Literature at Harvard University; he is also honorary scientific advisor to the Institute of Foreign Literatures at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and past president of the ICLA Committee on Literary Theory. 

 YANG Huilin <yanghuilin@ruc.edu.cn> is Distinguished Chair Professor at Renmin University of China, majoring in religious studies and comparative literature, as well as Vice-Chair of the University Academic Committee on the same university, Chair of the Executive Council of the World Forum of Sinology and China Studies, and member of the committee of Academic Degree Commission of Sate Council. Among his numerous books and articles, his recent works in Chinese include Theological Hermeneutics (2018, new revised edition), Searching for the Meaning (2013 and 2018), At the Boundary of Literature and Theology (2012), etc. The collections of his papers in English include Christianity in China: The Work of Yang Huilin (M.E. Dr. ZHANG Wei, is Professor of Classics in the Department of History, Fudan University. He was educated in the United States, receiving his BA in Classics from Cornell University and his PhD in Classics from Johns Hopkins University. His scholarly interests include early Greek literature (Homer, Hesiod and lyric) and philosophy (Plato), especially how they intersect and interact with each other, as well as modern Chinese reception of Western classics. He has published on Hesiod and the early Greek elegists in a number of scholarly journals in China, Asia and the US. His recent monograph on poetic education in archaic Greece came out from Beijing University Press in 2018.

ZHANG Yinde is professor at the University of Sorbonne Nouvelle-Paris 3,  Center for Comparative Literature (CERC), and member of the Center of Studies in Modern China (CECMC, EHESS/CNRS). His main research interest is the Chinese-Western literary relationship in 20th century and the Chinese contemporary literature, with a focus on comparative approach and political imagination.

YAO Yunfan, born in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province. He is an Associate Professor of the Center for Comparative Literature and World Literature at Shanghai Normal University. His research interests are Western literary criticism, cultural studies and political philosophy.

FANG Weiwei, Associate Professor of the Center for Comparative Literature and World Literature in the College of Humanities, Shanghai Normal University; PhD in Comparative Literature and World Literature, Beijing Normal University; Visiting Scholar at Brown University from 2014 to 2015. Her major research interests focus on Sinology, Comparative Literature and Foreign Literature. She has published more than ten papers on important academic journals such as Journal of Theoretical Studies in Literature and Art, Journal of Seeking Truth, Social Science Journal in China. She is currently undertaking a project from National Project for Young Scholars.

WU Peitong, born in Nantong, Jiangsu Province, is a Litt.D., Guangqi Young Scholar of Guangqi International Center for Scholars at Shanghai Normal University, and visiting scholar of Center for Chinese Studies at University of Hawaii at Manoa from 2015 to 2016. His expertise is American sinology, comparative poetics and interdisciplinary studies between literature and art. He has published articles and essays in important CSSCI journals such as Literature & Art Studies and Comparative Literature in China, including an article reprinted by China Social Science Excellence. He is now taking charge of a Shanghai Philosophy and Social Science Planning Project.
