ZHANG Xiping is currently Distinguished Professor at Beijing Language and Culture University, Professor and Doctoral Advisor at Beijing Foreign Studies University, Editor-in-Chief of International Sinology and Chief Expert of the Institute for International Communication of Chinese Culture. He once served as Director of the National Research Center of Overseas Sinology at Beijing Foreign Studies University. He has long been engaged in the study of the history of cultural exchanges between China and the West from 1500 to 1800, the history of Western Sinology, and the history of Christianity in China. He has undertaken the major research project of the Ministry of Education, "The Spread and Influence of Ancient Chinese Culture in Foreign Countries during the 20th Century," the major project supported by the National Social Science Foundation," Research on the Collation of Ming Catholic Literature in the Vatican Library Collection" (2014), and "The Rise of Western Sinology in the 17th-18th Centuries" (2022), etc. His major publications include but are not limited to: An Introduction to the Study of the Transmission of Confucianism to Europe, Early Sinological History in Europe: Cultural Exchanges and the Rising of Western Sinology.

张西平现为北京语言大学特聘教授、北京外国语大学教授、《国际汉学》主编、北京外 国语大学中华文化国际传播学院首席专家、北京外国语大学国际中国文化研究院荣誉院长。2019年获西班牙国民成就十字勋章，2021年获意大利之星指挥官勋章。主要研究领域有1500-1800年的中西文化交流史、西方汉学史和中国基督教史等，先后承担教育部重大攻关项 目《20世纪中国古代文化在域外的传播与影响》、国家社科基金重大项目《梵蒂冈图书馆藏 明天主教文献整理研究》（2014年）、《17-18世纪西方汉学的兴起》（2022年）等项目。代表著作有《儒学西传欧洲研究导论》《欧洲早期汉学史》等。。
